The Common Council on June 3 approved a certified survey map to combine two adjacent parcels at 7228 and 7236 South 20th Street, removing a lot line that would otherwise divide a single building and allowing the new owner to proceed with building and site improvements.
Christie Lane, community development director, said the property was purchased by the owner/operator of Mimosa (a restaurant operator with locations in Franklin and Brookfield) and that the owner intends substantial investment in façade and interior improvements. "When we were going through the review... it's actually two parcels with the building. You should not have a lot line through the middle of a building," Lane said, explaining why the CSM was necessary.
Lane also said Milwaukee County economic development staff had outreach and that the owner submitted an application for county economic-development assistance; staff characterized that outreach as a potential funding opportunity but did not commit county funds at the meeting. The council approved the CSM by roll call with all present voting aye. No opening date was confirmed; staff reported the owner is "anxious to move forward" and hopes to open this year but did not provide a firm timeline.
