Board approves contract for Latimer play-area groundwork

The Moreland School District Board of Education voted to award a construction contract for groundwork on the Latimer play-area improvement project, board members confirmed during the May meeting.

Board support cleared the way for Guerrero Construction Group to begin site preparation after the district received Department of State Architect (DSA) approval and completed competitive bidding.

The item’s presenter said the contract covers “the actual groundwork” needed after a previous contract had covered equipment and installation. The presenter reported the district advertised the work, attracted 15 potential bidders, and received 16 sealed bids before recommending Guerrero as the comparable bidder following interviews.

Board members confirmed the work was kept separate from ongoing bond work so the project could proceed over the summer. Trustee Ryan Salix moved the contract; another trustee seconded. A voice vote was taken and the motion carried, with the board saying “Aye.”

The presenter noted DSA sign-off was required before returning the item to the board for approval, and that the separation from the bond procurements was intended to ensure summer completion.

The board did not provide a line-item dollar amount for the awarded contract at the meeting. The presenter also did not read a detailed construction schedule during the discussion.

The board approved the contract by voice vote and directed staff to proceed with the next steps necessary for summer work to begin.

Documents presented to the board included bid and interview summaries; staff said those records supported the recommendation but did not read the full packet into the record.

The board moved on to other facilities items after approving the Latimer groundwork contract.
