Commission recommends easement for Rocky Mountain Power to serve new wastewater filtration facility

Jonathan Stathis of the city engineering department told the commission the filtration project will upgrade effluent to a higher standard (type 1 effluent) to allow reuse on parks and the golf course. He said Rocky Mountain Power requires an easement for the utility extension even though the line crosses city-owned land. The easement in the request is approximately 15 feet wide and 400 feet long; the conduit has already been installed and surveyed.
Commissioners voted to positively recommend the easement to city council so Rocky Mountain Power can finish the service installation. The city’s engineering staff said the project is progressing and the easement request is a standard requirement for the utility company.
Why it matters: The filtration upgrade is intended to provide treated wastewater suitable for irrigation and reduce potable-water demand for municipal uses. Granting the easement is an administrative step that enables the utility to extend power to the new building.
