The Isanti City Council voted to authorize staff to advertise for bids on the Heritage Boulevard intersection improvement project, a roundabout, and staff said it aims to open bids in early June and construct the project this year.
Jason, a city staff presenter, told the council, “This is our roundabout project. We've made it to the stage of needing to be authorized to advertise to go out for bids.” He said plans are in the agenda packet and the city is prepared to upload the project so bids can be opened in early June.
Council members asked whether late-season bidding might raise costs. Jason said many contractors are lighter in the fall and staff do not expect that to be a problem; if bids come in too high the city can reject them and rebid in winter for next year’s construction season. Staff also told the council the project estimate is close to the available grant funds, so savings would remain as unused grant funds unless the project is altered.
Council member Lundin moved to approve the resolution to advertise for bids; Council member Holmgren seconded. The motion carried, 5-0.
Staff described the anticipated construction method as a concentrated three-month window with a full intersection closure and signed detours to preserve local access; the schedule is intended to avoid work during the Rodeo and Jubilee Days. The transcript shows no additional budget action at the meeting; staff indicated land acquisition was recently completed and that the timeline made a same-year build feasible.
