Isanti City officials on Tuesday presented a $3,209.80 donation to Rough Star Rescue raised through a liquor-store rounding-up campaign and cash donations.
The donation was announced during the city council meeting as part of the city’s twelfth annual MMBA Pet Supply Drive. The city’s liquor-store manager joined the mayor, council and Rough Star Rescue representatives for a photo and brief remarks.
Azure Davis, executive director and founder of Rough Star Rescue, said the organization is foster-based and works across Central Minnesota. “Just last month alone, we took in 400 animals into the rescue,” Davis said. “So we're gonna be about 4,000 animals just this year that we're rescuing.” She said veterinary expenses are the rescue’s largest cost and that the donation will be helpful.
The council thanked donors and city staff for organizing the drive. No formal council action was required; the presentation was part of the meeting’s proclamations and community acknowledgments.
The council also noted a local parks board member’s endorsement of the rescue and invited the group to speak briefly and be photographed with city officials.
