Stearns County sets public hearing July 8 on abandonment petition for County Ditch 35

Chad Martini of Stearns County Property Services told the board on June 3 that the county auditor had received a petition to abandon County Ditch 35 and requested the board set a public hearing for July 8, 2025.
"As a matter of state law, the auditor has received a petition for abandonment for County Ditch 35," Martini said, and he asked the board to set a hearing to consider the petition on 07/08/2025.
Commissioner Notch moved to set the hearing date; Commissioner Clark seconded the motion. Martini told commissioners there are five property owners affected and that all have committed to the abandonment. "One for a variety of reasons hasn't actually signed the petition but has verbally shared that they're in agreement," he said. He added that county ditches can only be created or abandoned by property owners.
Board members approved the motion by voice vote; the chair announced the hearing date was set. No substantive debate or amendments to the petition occurred at the meeting.
The public hearing will allow landowners, interested parties and residents to comment before the board, acting as the drainage authority for County Ditch 35, considers the petition under state law.
