Summary
Pipestone County approved buying an Iron Bull dump trailer for approximately $11,549 to be shared 50/50 between the Highway Department and Building & Grounds; commissioners said the trailer will be used for storm cleanup, skid-steer transport and small-haul tasks.
Pipestone County commissioners approved the purchase of an Iron Bull dump trailer on May 27 after Highway Department and Building & Grounds staff described shared uses and budget availability.
Highway Engineer Nick Bergman presented bids and explained the two quoted models differ by sidewall thickness and include a heavier 7-gauge floor on the higher-priced unit. Building & Grounds Supervisor (spoke from the floor) said the department would use the trailer for moving a skid steer, moving trees and debris after storms, and projects such as work at the Veterans Memorial; the highway department said it would use the trailer for smaller jobs where a full dump truck is not economical.
Commissioner Dallas moved to approve the purchase of the $11,549 Iron Bull dump trailer from Advantage RV in Watertown, and the board voted to authorize the buy. Commissioners discussed storage at the Highway Department, trailer features including ramps and electric brakes, and the option to split usage and costs 50/50 between departments. County staff said $7,000 had previously been budgeted in 2021 and that Building & Grounds would provide the remainder from its budget.
The purchase is intended to increase operational efficiency by reducing manual loading and by allowing lighter equipment to be moved without using heavy dump trucks.
