Kandiyohi County's board voted May 20 to award the construction contract for the Edwards Township bridge replacement (project SAP 34‑599‑043) to the low bidder, in the amount of $381,513.71.
Mel Odens, public works director, told the board the county closed the township bridge on Jan. 17 and secured state aid to expedite replacement. Bids were opened May 13; the low bid was $381,513.71, which Odens said was roughly 36% below the engineer's estimate. Odens noted box culvert production delays in prior years have eased and recommended awarding the contract to the apparent low bidder as presented.
Commissioners approved the award by voice vote and noted the contractor has until November to complete the work under the county's schedule.
Public Works will proceed with contract documents and construction scheduling, with an anticipated completion date in November 2025 per the project timeline discussed at the meeting.
