Board approves permit for 3 Fingers Sawmill relocation with six conditions

Kandiyohi County commissioners on May 20 approved a Planning Commission recommendation to allow James Dykema (doing business as 3 Fingers Sawmill) to relocate his sawmill and related retail and kiln/storage operations into a commercial/industrial district near Kenny Power Co‑op.
Eric Van Dyken, county zoning administrator, told the board the Planning Commission recommended the application with six conditions addressing hours of operation, signage, parking and site appearance to avoid creating an eyesore. He said the applicant intends retail frontage for finished goods, a sawmill off to the side and lumber storage and kiln space toward the rear of the property.
Commissioners noted no adverse testimony at the Planning Commission hearing. The board voted to approve the application as recommended; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff will incorporate the six Planning Commission conditions into the permit and monitor compliance through the county zoning process.
