Kandiyohi County commissioners voted May 20 to approve the Planning Commission's recommendation to permit a beef feedlot proposed for Colfax Township, adopting amended findings and the four original conditions recommended by the Planning Commission.
Eric Van Dyken, the county zoning administrator, told the board the planning commission reviewed the application from Justin Anderson and added language to findings 1 and 4 to clarify analysis of property valuation, use, and impacts such as odors, dust and noise; the commission recommended approval with one abstention.
Commissioner Duane Anderson stated on the record that he would not comment or vote on the item because of a conflict of interest. The board then approved the Planning Commission's recommendation by voice vote.
Van Dyken explained the planning commission weighed potential risks and the applicant's proposed mitigations and quoted the county ordinance and applicable state statute in its findings. The board directed staff to proceed consistent with the Planning Commission findings and conditions.
