Board approves hire of Erica Ternus, accepts recent resignation; department pauses some postings to rebalance caseloads

The Cook County Public Health and Human Services Board on May 20 voted unanimously to hire Erica Ternus as an executive administrative assistant and to accept the resignation of Sarah Eisenreich.
Commissioner Patrick Sullivan moved to approve the hire and the resignation, saying, “I'd like to make a motion to approve the hire of Erica Ternus and the resignation of Sarah Einrich.” Commissioner Gamble seconded the motion; the board recorded unanimous approval.
Director Allison told the board that the department recently welcomed Bob Nelson as a children’s mental‑health case manager and that Erica Ternus will start June 9. She said one longtime staff member, Melissa, is beginning a phased reduction in hours and will support onboarding through July. Allison said the department is recruiting to fill two vacancies on the children and family services team but is pausing immediate posting for one behavioral-health position to reassess caseload distribution after the recent turnover.
Allison explained the timeline: Sarah Eisenreich started in the coordinated crisis response position on March 10 and served just under two months before resigning. The executive administrative assistant role that will be filled by Ternus has remained at pay grade 160 and the department did not change the grade when re-posting.
The board recorded thanks to departing and incoming staff and commended the fiscal team earlier in the meeting for timely reporting. The unanimous vote to approve hiring and accept the resignation was taken during the director’s staffing report and recorded on the consent-handling portion of the agenda.
