Chickasaw County adopts FY2025-26 appropriation resolution and related payroll, salary and transfer measures

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on June 2 approved the county's fiscal year 2025-26 appropriation resolution, adopted payroll procedures for the coming year and approved the county's employee salary and wage schedule.

The actions, taken in motions approved by the board, put the budget into effect ahead of the July 1 fiscal year start and included several interfund operating transfers discussed during the session. The board approved a package that the county administrator said carried a grand total of expenditures and transfers of $21,678,375 for the coming year.

The appropriation resolution (06-02-25-21) was presented as the compilation of budget decisions made in prior sessions; the board's secretary said the document aggregates departmental budgets, transfers and previously discussed allocations so departments can begin spending July 1. The board approved the appropriation resolution by recorded vote.

The board also approved a payroll procedures resolution (06-02-25-20) that sets administrative rules for pay periods and related payroll mechanics for FY2025-26 and then approved the county's employee salary and wage schedule for the year. Board members confirmed elected supervisors would not receive an increase and that most department and elected-official recommendations were included in the final schedule.

Separately, supervisors approved interfund transfers previously discussed during budget work sessions. Among those were two transfers from the landfill fund, each described in the meeting as not to exceed $75,000: one transfer to the general basic fund and one transfer to a restricted service or reserve fund identified in the budget paperwork. The board also approved an operating transfer from the county's RSP (road-user/secondary) account to the secondary roads fund in the usual payment cadence; the finance staff said the transfer would be made in installments following tax collections.

Board members moved and seconded the resolution motions and the measures passed by majority vote. Supervisors said staff and the auditor prepared the documents and that the resolutions reflect months of budget work. Officials also noted minor numeric clarifications discussed during the meeting and said corrected final documents will be the versions signed by the board.

The board handled a set of other routine fiscal housekeeping items during the meeting and said staff will implement the transfers and final figures after the clerk and auditor prepare the signed resolutions.

Staff and supervisors said any further technical corrections discovered after today's vote will be reflected in updated signed copies and that departments will be authorized to begin spending on July 1 under the approved appropriation and payroll procedures.
