Board adopts volunteer handbook, approves volunteer landscaper for courthouse

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors approved a county volunteer handbook and accepted a proposed volunteer to perform lawn and landscaping work at county properties.
County staff said the handbook was adapted from a template used by other counties and that County Conservation had previously approved a similar document. The handbook sets out requirements for sign-in/out, reporting lines to head custodian Dave (first name only), training, use of personal protective equipment and prohibitions on using county computers or performing construction tasks.
The board approved allowing the volunteer—identified in the meeting as Brian Muldry, a former part-time custodian—to begin work after he signs the volunteer agreement and receives training and PPE. The volunteer's duties were limited to lawn mowing, edging and similar landscaping tasks; the board explicitly excluded tree trimming and carpentry from this assignment.
The motion to approve the handbook and the volunteer's participation passed by voice vote.
