The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors approved hiring a part-time EMT to a full-time position and accepted a part-time EMT's resignation at its May 19 meeting.
Joe (EMS director) told the board the interview committee reviewed five candidates and reached consensus to offer the full-time EMT position to Virto Uribe, who currently works part time for the department. The director proposed a May 26 start date and said the employee would remain at his current hourly wage. The board approved the hire by motion.
Board members conducted a roll call for the hiring motion: Isaac (aye), Steve (aye), Travis (aye), Scott (aye) and Jake (aye). The motion carried 5-0.
Later the board reviewed and approved a resignation letter from a part-time EMT identified in the packet as Abe Carls, effective May 13, according to staff. The director said Carls had been on the roster but was not meeting the hours requirement and agreed to resign; the board approved the resignation by motion.
Staff said they plan to supply the board with a breakdown of hours worked by personnel and coverage gaps to guide any further hiring. The board discussed possibly bringing on a noncurrent-employee applicant identified in the hiring process to increase coverage.
The board welcomed the new hire; the roll call vote made the hiring outcome official.
