Council approves $500,000 improvements to Madison Hill booster pump station

The Worcester City Council on June 2 authorized improvements to the Madison Hill Booster Pump Station, approving the administration's request to advertise and enter a contract with the lowest and best bidder for the work.
Miss Warden, presenting the utilities request, described the scope: pump replacement, piping replacement, electrical and SCADA replacement, and the addition of a natural gas backup generator to power the booster during outages. She said the existing pumps and electrical equipment were installed in the early 1970s and are now obsolete. "The booster station is the only non redundant station in the city and continuously supply supplies the South High Pressure Zone with water," the presentation said. The project will convert the station from three pumps to two and was estimated to cost $500,000.
With no questions from council, a motion to adopt the resolution authorizing the contract was made and seconded. Roll call recorded unanimous "yes" votes from council members present. The administration noted the existing building will remain and that all interior systems will be replaced. City staff member Fritz was available at the meeting to answer technical questions.
The resolution (2025-42) allows for the city to advertise for bids and enter into a contract with the successful bidder. No timeline for construction start or completion was provided in the meeting record.
