City council confirms Andrea Uhler as director of law

Andrea Uhler was confirmed as Worcester's director of law by voice vote at the City Council's June 2 meeting.

The nomination was read into the record in accordance with the City of Worcester charter. The council asked those in favor to signify by saying "aye," and no members opposed. After the confirmation, Uhler addressed the council: "Thank you very much. I'm excited for the opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to serve the city and being a member of the team here for everyone."

The council packet included a memorandum that cited the city charter provision used for the nomination process and summarized Uhler's background. The memo said she joined the city in April 2024 as deputy director of law, previously was an associate attorney with Crittfield, Crittfield and Johnston LTD, and served as court administrator/staff attorney/mediator for the Wayne County Common Pleas Court. The memo also said she previously served as civil chief for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and has practiced law in Wayne County for more than 12 years.

Council members did not request further questions following the nomination reading; the council proceeded to a voice vote and welcomed Uhler after the vote. Uhler noted she had been serving as acting director of law prior to the confirmation.

The nomination and vote closed the item; no additional motions or roll-call vote was recorded in the meeting minutes.
