Council approves authorization for ODOT to work inside city limits on U.S. 24 pavement and bridges

The Napoleon City Council on Monday introduced ordinance 020-25 granting the Ohio Department of Transportation permission to work within city limits to remove and replace pavement on U.S. 24 from the U.S. 6 interchange to the Maumee River bridge and to repair bridges within the same section.
Council members were told the work includes bridge repairs and that some locations will require major work. Staff said ODOT plans to advertise the project this fall and complete the work by Sept. 1, 2026. Speakers cautioned the work may temporarily limit traffic to one lane in each direction at times but said they expect emergency vehicles will be accommodated and that the city will be notified of ODOT’s schedule in advance.
The council introduced the ordinance and voted to move it forward to subsequent readings by roll call. Staff said the authorization is a routine step ODOT requires before performing work within municipal boundaries.
