Freeport adopts 10 shared principles of policing; council and police highlight community programs

The Freeport City Council unanimously adopted a resolution formally endorsing the "10 shared principles" of community policing developed collaboratively by the Illinois NAACP and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

City Manager Darren Boyer and Police Chief (presenter) said the principles align with existing department policies on equity, de‑escalation and community engagement. "This action underscores the city's dedication to justice and fairness for all residents," staff recommended.
