Planning department moves June meeting, clarifies virtual attendance and quorum rules

The Verona Planning Department on June 2 told the Planning Commission that the next meeting will be held Monday, June 30, moved earlier because of the July 4 holiday; there will be no meeting in July. The department also said the August meeting will be Aug. 4 and, because of Labor Day, the September meeting will be moved to Tuesday, Sept. 2.
“Next meeting will be on June 30,” Mr. Severson said, adding that “there’ll be no meeting in July.” He told commissioners to notify staff of scheduling conflicts by email or at the meeting. Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Taylor said they expect to be out of state on those dates and asked whether virtual participation would be possible.
Mr. Severson said the city would “double check some of the rules” and that virtual attendance may be allowed, but he cautioned that “we do have to have quorum in the room.” The commission discussed the practical risk that if too many members attend virtually and the internet connection fails, the meeting could be disrupted; staff said they would manage scheduling and quorum concerns.
Commissioners were asked to notify staff about conflicts; no formal change to the commission’s rules was made at the meeting.
