Planning commission approves storage addition at 1979 Milky Way

Verona Planning Commission members voted June 2 to approve a site plan for an addition to an existing storage building at 1979 Milky Way.

The addition, described by planning staff as matching the design of the existing building and expanding west along an existing driveway, will be used to support campus utility and maintenance operations. “The applicant is requesting approval of a site plan for an addition onto an existing building, for storage located at 1979 Milky Way,” Mr. Severson of the planning department told the commission.

Mr. Severson said the existing structure is located on the west side of the campus in an area currently being used for utility and maintenance operations and that the addition will be accessed by the site’s existing driveway. “This is a rendering showing how the addition will mimic the existing building,” he said, and staff “have no concerns” with the proposal.

Commissioner Hankard moved to approve the site plan; Commissioner Swanson seconded the motion. The motion passed with a recorded outcome of six yes votes and one abstention (Commissioner Powers). The commission’s approval covers the site plan as submitted; no additional conditions were announced during the meeting.

The commission took the action during its regularly scheduled June 2 meeting after there were no public commenters on the item.
