The chief said residents should use Washington County’s nonemergency number for nonurgent matters once the consolidation is complete. He added the department will maintain in‑person administrative service hours so people can request reports or leave messages for records staff.
Residents and trustees raised concerns about phone reliability and past instances when callers could not get through. Trustee Baum recounted an episode when calls went unanswered for two days and said an officer eventually responded only after several days. The police department said they had a phone vendor (Norcom) check local lines and that some volume/transfer issues were investigated.
The committee discussed public outreach: staff said they plan to inform residents via the department’s Facebook page and to consider a short video showing after‑hours lobby procedures so residents know how to contact the department when the lobby is unstaffed. The police chief said detectives are working with the FBI on a separate investigation referenced earlier in the meeting and that officers would maintain a presence at local schools for the remainder of the week.
