The company plans to move most manufacturing activities from an existing site across the highway into a new, purpose‑built 45,000‑square‑foot facility on a 15.24‑acre property previously used as a sawmill site.
Why it mattered: American Arrow manufactures interior components for private aircraft and told the board the expansion will increase employment capacity in Bulloch County from about 90 employees to a potential 200. Staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval with conditions focused on building appearance and landscaping.
Applicant and staff presentation Attorney Chris Gohagen and company CEO Kelsey Connor described the business and the new facility. Gohagen said American Arrow’s processes are fully enclosed, generate no hazardous fumes, and use self‑extinguishing materials because the components are intended for aircraft interiors. Planning staff presented a site plan and recommended architectural and screening conditions; the Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval.
Board action With no public opposition signed, commissioners voted to approve the conditional use with the staff‑recommended conditions to address architecture, parking lot trees and site buffers. The company said it will continue the existing facility across the street and operate the new site for most manufacturing processes; the facility will be fenced and is not open to the public.
Ending Staff will finalize permit conditions and issue the conditional use permit subject to the listed requirements. The company said the move will create additional local employment and that it has not sought tax abatements for expansion.
