Public works committee to evaluate West Broadway parking, curb setbacks and sight lines

Goldendale council members on June 2 heard an update from the public works committee on West Broadway and directed ongoing evaluation of parking, curb setbacks and line-of-sight improvements.
The committee reported it is identifying alternatives that address public safety concerns, snow-plowing limitations and street-sweeping constraints on the primary transportation corridor. The committee will map curb setbacks and prioritize intersections where painting setbacks will improve sight lines, and staff said those actions must be coordinated with the state because the Broadway roadway is a state highway from curb to curb.
Councilmembers discussed the possibility of converting the Mill and Broadway intersection to a four-way stop and asked staff to quantify the number of parking spaces affected, the potential number of new parking spots created and the implications for school-bus parking near the museum. One council member also asked the committee to consider allowing school buses daytime access to the north side near the museum to reduce parking conflicts.
No final policy change or ordinance was adopted at the meeting; the public works committee will continue work and report back to council with specific recommendations.
