A staff member identified as Paul, speaking as a project representative, said the construction contract was awarded to Acme Construction with Stanley Consultants performing engineering work. He said production and delivery of the precast box culverts drive the project schedule and that contractors must coordinate traffic control with Utah Department of Transportation and city reviewers.
Paul said the contractor may reduce Main Street to one lane in each direction for up to 60 daytime days and may impose up to 10 nights of full closure at night; those most disruptive periods will likely coincide. Paul said the tunnel work could begin in July or August to prepare for box delivery and that the tunnel structure “should be done around the October, beginning November” timeframe, with final landscaping possibly continuing into the following spring.
Sadie Boyer, identified at the meeting as the project manager for the Main Street Underpass and staff recipient of a state public-works award, was present and available to correct details, the council noted. A public‑involvement firm is working with adjacent residents and businesses and will coordinate updates, a dedicated phone number and email updates as the schedule firm up.
Why it matters: the underpass is a multiweek construction project on a major corridor; the city’s lane‑reduction and night‑closure allowances are designed to balance construction needs with traffic flow and safety, and the schedule is dependent on precast box production.
