Bastrop County ESD 3 reports added ambulances, air membership to expand emergency coverage for Elgin area

Keith Simpson, commissioner for Emergency Service District No. 3, addressed the council during the public comment period to announce an executed interlocal agreement and service enhancements aimed at improving emergency medical coverage for Bastrop County, including Elgin.
Simpson said the district has increased ground-ambulance capacity from four to five units and added two 12-hour “peak-load” units (one running 9 a.m.–9 p.m., another 12–12) to improve system coverage during busy hours. He said the fifth ambulance is stationed at ESD Station 4 and will help backfill coverage for Elgin, McDade and Page as needed.
Simpson also described a district-paid membership through PHI for air transport that the district has approved; the membership will allow Bastrop County residents to be flown to needed hospitals while the membership cost will be billed to the patient’s insurance rather than requiring out-of-pocket payment, Simpson said.
Simpson thanked the city manager and staff for advancing the interlocal agreement and said final provider agreements and extensions are in progress. The council did not take an action on the announcement; the item was presented as public comment.
