Summary
The Volusia County School Board unanimously adopted proposed School Board Policy 3.26, establishing guidelines for audio recording Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 plan meetings after the item was advertised and discussed previously.
The Volusia County School Board on Tuesday adopted School Board Policy 3.26, Guidelines for audio recording Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 plan meetings.
Superintendent Carmen Balgobin told the board the policy had already been presented and advertised, and no public input was received during the advertising period. The board moved and adopted the policy unanimously.
Why it matters: Policy 3.26 sets district standards for parents and participants who wish to make audio recordings of meetings where programs and accommodations for students with disabilities are discussed. The board and staff said the policy was brought forward after earlier workshops and that the required public-advertising period had concluded with no additional input recorded.
Board member Jessie Thompson moved to approve the adoption; Donna Brosmer seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
What’s next: With adoption, district staff will follow the new guidelines when parents or other meeting participants request to audio-record an IEP or Section 504 meeting. The board did not receive any public comments on the policy at Tuesday’s meeting.
