The Michigan City Common Council Finance Committee voted unanimously June 3 to approve a $37,799.86 claim covering May and June lease payments to La Porte Chrysler for a Dodge Durango and Dodge Chargers assigned to the Michigan City Police Department.
The action came during a short finance committee meeting in which committee members also reviewed the city’s riverboat and rainy day fund balances. Committee members reported a riverboat fund balance of $1,872,749.72 and a rainy day fund balance of $1,830,213.71, for a combined total of $3,702,963.43.
A presiding finance committee member moved that the claim be paid; another member seconded the motion and the committee approved it by voice vote, with the presiding member calling, “All in favor signify by saying ‘aye,’” and receiving unanimous assent.
President Tracy Tillman was absent and her absence was recorded as excused. Dr. Cora and Vice President Tim Beatrice were present, giving the committee a quorum. The committee noted there were no public comments and adjourned after reviewing the item.
The meeting record identifies the claim as “2235” for $37,799.86 and describes it as covering May and June lease payments to La Porte Chrysler for city police vehicles. The committee did not specify additional budgetary actions or follow-up steps related to the funds report during the session.
