Council updates on parks maintenance, movie night and pavilion progress

Councilors on June 2 discussed parks maintenance, upcoming summer events and construction progress at the pavilion.
Councilmember Tomer Roulette (Streets/Alleys/Curbs liaison) and Councilmember Dylan Little (Parks and Playgrounds liaison) reported on maintenance and use. Little asked what plans exist for cleaning picnic tables at George Street Park and other small parks where bird droppings had accumulated; councilors said summer help would arrive and suggested adding the task to a maintenance schedule. Malone noted that George Street Park has not been renovated like other parks and “we may wanna talk about at budget time” planning for renovation in the next one to two years.
Council also described event planning: the city will try an LED screen for movie night with an earlier start — the emcee will start crowd activities at 6:30 p.m. and the movie could start around 7 p.m. if the LED screen performs as expected. Councilmembers noted Music on the River and the farmers market were starting, and that local restaurants and a volunteer emcee would participate.
Separately, council members said the first load of pavilion trusses had been delivered and that crews expected to raise and dry‑in the structure over the next several days; members acknowledged temporary parking impacts while the crane and construction are onsite.
No formal action was required; the council received updates and encouraged staff to prioritize park cleaning and maintenance scheduling.
