Rosemount is one step closer to owning and clearing the former SuperAmerica gas station at 14515 Dodd Boulevard after the City Council approved an interfund loan as part of the meeting's consent agenda Tuesday.
The consent agenda, approved 5-0, included an interfund loan to purchase the property (listed in the packet as 14515 Dodd Boulevard, formerly the Speedway/SuperAmerica site). City staff member Martin told council that staff completed a site walk-through and described the interior as consistent with an abandoned gas station; he said nothing currently prevents closing and that demolition is anticipated in the near term.
During staff updates, Martin said the city expects to have the site demolished in time for the community's Levendale/Leprechaun Days event, which falls about a month and a half after the meeting. He characterized the work as removing a blighted parcel from the community and said staff was preparing for demolition and site cleanup if the purchase closes as expected.
The consent agenda motion to approve items 6a through 6g was moved and seconded during the meeting and carried on a roll call. The consent agenda included other routine items such as the bills listing, minutes, a performance measure program required by the state, a cost-share agreement with Dakota County on voting equipment, liquor license renewals, and an $11,200 donation to the fire department.
City staff said demolition scheduling, vendor selection for demolition and environmental remediation (if needed) will be handled after closing; staff did not offer detailed contractor names or a final demolition cost estimate at the meeting.
The council did not take separate action beyond the consent vote on the property purchase. Staff indicated the next steps are executing closing documents, beginning demotion preparation and clearing the site before the community event.
