North Ridgeville City Council on June 2 adopted Resolution 2025-87, formally designating June 2025 as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month in the city.
Mayor described the city's dementia-awareness efforts and the senior center's role: “As you know, last year, we undertook an effort to become a dementia friendly community, which Alzheimer's fits under that umbrella. You know, so we're trying to bring a lot of awareness to the issue the senior center has through, the organization that they're partnering with.”
Councilmember Winkle praised the senior center's work and noted the city is “one of 7 counties or 8 counties in Ohio that's dementia friendly, and the only 1 in Lorain County.” Council added the emergency clause so the designation would cover the entire month immediately. Roll call recorded yes votes from Swank, Schaefer, Abens, Winkle, Awig, De Vries and Jacobs; the resolution was adopted.
