Kenmore finalizing EV infrastructure plan; public chargers limited now

Kenmore is finishing an electric vehicle infrastructure plan aimed at preparing for rising EV adoption and increasing accessibility for residents without home charging, Climate Action Program Manager Nina Rasmussen said.
"We are currently finishing up, an electric vehicle infrastructure plan," Rasmussen said, adding the plan will help the city identify where to site chargers for residents and visitors. She said the plan will prioritize accessibility for people without dedicated parking and those who cannot charge at home.
Rasmussen noted there are a few public chargers today: "There is 1 charger over by Town Square, and then there are 2 chargers over at the Safeway." She said the city conducted community engagement to identify preferred charging locations and is looking at grant opportunities with Puget Sound Energy to help pay for infrastructure.
The plan aims to select specific spots and begin implementation later this year, Rasmussen said, with additional funding and interagency coordination needed to expand access beyond the small number of existing chargers.
