Council renames Harriet Street to Peterson Street to honor longtime Lakeman leader

The Waupaca Common Council approved Resolution No. 1576 on June 3 to rename Harriet Street as Peterson Street in honor of Dave “Pete” Peterson, recognizing his civic service and long involvement with the Lakeman baseball organization.
Mayor Brian Smith read the resolution, which outlines Peterson’s playing and managerial records with the Lakeman, including leading team totals and managerial accomplishments: 43 seasons as player-manager, 21 division championships and 12 BABA Grama championships. The resolution states the city will provide signage and public notification to commemorate the honor.
Dave Peterson, the honoree, spoke briefly and accepted the recognition: “I really am humbled by this… I do accept it based on the time I put in to help me to have recreation grama keep the adult amateur baseball going.”
During the roll-call vote Peterson abstained; the motion carried with nine “aye” votes from Paul Hagen, Colin Dykstra, Scott Perchatsky, Eric Halvorsen, Henry Valaker, Dimitri Martin, Paul Mayhew, Corey Nagel and Eric Olsen. Councilmembers directed staff to order signage and plan a presentation during the Lakeman old-timers game in late July.
