Board approves consent agenda, policy updates and personnel items; work session set for June 11

The Harrison County Board of Education approved routine consent items, multiple policy updates and recommended personnel actions during its June 3 meeting; the board also set a work session for June 11 at 4 p.m.

At the start of the business portion, a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented by the superintendent was made, seconded and recorded as carried. Policy updates listed in the packet were then moved and seconded and approved after brief comments; no substantive on-the-record amendments were made.

Under personnel matters the board approved the personnel agenda with one item pulled for further action: the agenda noted a personnel item for Kelly Clark (AE cat, Victory) was to be pulled. A board member stated a recusation regarding his daughter’s position (Mr. Oates’ recusal was noted in the record). The remaining personnel actions were approved as presented and a new job description was adopted as part of the personnel packet.

The superintendent reported operational items during the meeting: attendance over the last two days at 59.6 percent (not including the following day), preparations for school moves over the summer, bid openings for Mountaineer Middle and Liberty secure entrances and continued moving activity; staff said a pre-bid meeting had taken place and bid openings were scheduled for June 11. The board confirmed the June 11 work session at 4:00 p.m.

All routine motions were approved with members verbally recorded as "aye" and no recorded opposition in the meeting minutes. The board concluded business and moved to member comments and adjournment.
