Board grants tenure to three administrators; new hires announced and parent raises personnel concern

The Huntington Union Free School District board on June 2 granted tenure to three administrators and announced several hires for the coming school year. The board also heard a public comment from a parent asking that a particular teacher be retained; the speaker read a petition signed by students in support of that instructor.
Administrators and the board recognized Jim Hoopes, Cindy Siegel and Dr. Nicole Vidiri Silva as newly tenured. Hoopes was recognized for his work as director of physical education, health and athletics; Siegel for leadership as principal of Flower Hill; and Dr. Vidiri Silva for chairing special education. The board presented flowers and public commendations at the meeting.
The superintendent announced several new hires for 2025–26: Alexis Estrada (assistant principal at Findlay Middle School), Sarah Fleishman (English as a New Language teacher), Kelly Flynn (orchestra teacher for Woodhull and Jack Abrams), Michelle Hanshew (elementary school counselor), Lorraine Raha (business teacher at Huntington High School), and Nicole Siegel (computer science teacher at Huntington High School). District leaders said three administrators received tenure after successful evaluations and that most new positions are filled by current or new staff whose contracts will be handled through standard personnel procedures.
During the public-comment portion of the meeting a parent, Denise Gratton, read a statement on behalf of her daughter describing the teacher’s positive impact; she said a student petition gathered more than 45 signatures in the space of roughly 40 minutes to request that the teacher continue at Huntington High School. The speaker asked the district to consider the student perspective; board members thanked the student for the letter and encouraged continued civility and communication. No board action on that personnel concern was recorded during the meeting.
The board also approved personnel schedules presented by the superintendent (schedules 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16, 17, 19 and 20 2) and moved other business as settled items.
