Organizers from the We Got Your Back community team told the Greensville County Board of Supervisors about a planned United Back‑to‑School community tailgate on July 19, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Greensville County High School, 403 Harding Street, Emporia.
“My name is Keanu Washington,” the speaker said, representing the group and repeating the team motto: “boots on the ground.” The event, organizers said, is intended to prepare students and parents for the upcoming school year and will include partnerships with Greensville County Public Schools, local churches, law enforcement and the community. Organizers requested that the board and others consider sponsoring the event or donating backpacks, school supplies and hygiene items.
Terrence Washington, identified as the founder of the We Got Your Back community team, described prior events the group has run, including a law enforcement youth day that drew officers from multiple local jurisdictions. Belinda Aistrapp (spelling as stated in the meeting) described a SOL kickoff partnership between Greensville County Public Schools and the community team; she said the team had secured roughly 20 community partners for that event.
Organizers asked the board to attend the July 19 tailgate in person if possible so youth and families can see elected leaders participating. They said specific funding sources for the event are not specified in the meeting and that donations from individuals and organizations are being sought.
