The Geneva Committee of the Whole approved a contract with Fox Excavating for water-main replacement at the Del Norte Health and Wellness Center in the low-bid amount of $535,685.40, with a 10% contingency authorizing change orders up to a not-to-exceed total of $589,253.94.
Staff said the FY26 budget contains funds for the project. Superintendent Van Gescombe explained the existing water main was installed in 1988 and has been deteriorating rapidly in that location due to corrosive soils; the city recommended replacement with PVC C-900 pipe to avoid soil-related corrosion.
Alderson Kasarach asked about the pipe material and was told the PVC C-900 product will not be affected by the corrosive soils. Alderson Perzmolecki asked whether the work expands service; staff said this is primarily a straight replacement and not an expansion of the service area.
The Committee adopted the resolution by voice vote; staff said the work will be coordinated with the campus owner (hospital) when needed. The contract includes a contingency to account for unforeseen field conditions.
