Jupiter council proclaims Code Compliance Appreciation Week, praises police response to recent Abacoa incidents

The Jupiter Town Council issued a proclamation declaring June 2025 as Code Compliance Officers Appreciation Week and several councilors and members of the public used the meeting to praise the town’s code and police staff for recent work.
Mayor Jim Koretsky read the proclamation recognizing Code Compliance staff for enforcing building, zoning, housing, fire-safety and environmental codes and encouraging residents to express appreciation. Chris Ailes, the town’s Code Compliance Manager, accepted the proclamation and thanked the council for their support.
"Mayor, town council, town manager, thank you for your continued support of our division. We couldn't do this without the support and the welcoming atmosphere that this council and the town manager presents for us," Ailes said. "We're honored to serve the residents of Jupiter. We're honored to feel as appreciated as we do by the town, And we will continue to serve with respect and dignity."
During public comments, resident Brett Leone praised the Jupiter Police Department for its response to a recent incident in Abacoa and noted a dedication at the police department building honoring the town's first police chief, Chief Mayo. "Their response and handling of that situation was second to none," Leone said, adding that the police presence helped ensure a peaceful outcome.
Multiple council members reiterated their appreciation for Code Compliance and police staff. In his report, the town manager also recognized Code Compliance for handling complex situations professionally. Councilors said the departments’ work improves neighborhoods and public safety.
Leone also urged the council to study lighting at key intersections in Abacoa to improve pedestrian safety; he cited dark intersections on routes he uses frequently. The council did not take formal action on the lighting request during the meeting; it was raised as a public-comment item.
Background: The proclamation follows the statewide observance the Florida Association of Code Enforcement recommended for June. Town staff and councilors noted recent beautification and enforcement efforts as evidence of code compliance impact.
