County awards 2025 road striping contract to local firm Accurate Striping for $130,327.92

Delaware County Commissioners voted June 2 to award the county's 2025 road-striping work to local contractor Accurate Striping for $130,327.92.
Tommy Humber, county highway department, presented three quotes: Accurate Striping ($130,327.92 after a bid revision), Indiana Sign and Barricade ($85,793), and Indiana Traffic Service ($148,290). Humber said the department previously experienced mistakes with Indiana Sign and Barricade and recommended paying more to secure a higher-quality, local contractor.
Humber told the board the planned work covers roughly 26.5 miles of road and that the cost savings from reordering mobilization saved about $20,634.88 from Accurate's initial quote; the adjusted Accurate total fits within the department’s current striping budget line of about $137,400. The board approved the higher-priced, local bid by roll call.
Commissioners noted striping quality affects road safety and durability: "When you pave these roads and we have somebody come in and stripe them and they stripe them, They put an s curve in some place... We get phone calls," one commissioner said. The county will proceed with Accurate and may stagger additional striping work later in the year if budget or product-cost pressures require.
