Homewood’s finance committee approved a design-and-survey contract with EDT for the former Waffle House site at 185 Oxmoor Road and a companion budget amendment to reallocate $10,000 into engineering services to fund part of the work.
Staff said the city has closed on the property and plans to convert it to a parking lot. The EDT proposal covers survey, landscape and electrical design and construction administration. Staff said they hope to bid the job in late 2025 and start construction in the fall, contingent on the procurement schedule and demolition of the existing building.
A councilor asked whether the design firm would bid the work; staff replied the city will bid the project and EDT will provide construction administration. The committee also discussed a separate demolition quote of $28,075 that will come to the finance committee in a later cycle.
During the vote there was a brief discrepancy on the dollar figure read aloud (committee members spoke aloud both $39,500 and $35,900); staff clarified that the contract being approved and the related resolution would move $10,000 from Traffic Engineering Services into Engineering Services to cover the work. The motion to approve the EDT contract and the budget amendment passed on the committee floor, recorded as the ayes having it.
