Senate Concurrent Resolution 39, urging BESE to make accessible an athletic-safety training program for athletic directors and coaches, was reported favorably by the House Education Committee.
Chairman Edmonds said the training aligns with practices in other states in the SREB region and that the SREB-affiliated group recommended a program that could be adapted for Louisiana. “We will work with BESE along the way,” Edmonds said, noting the goal is to protect student athletes and provide hands-on training for coaches and staff.
Representative Carpenter said she had assumed such training was already provided to parents and coaches but welcomed the resolution as a useful step to expand training on concussions, sudden cardiac events and other injuries. The committee voted to report SCR 39 favorably.
