Council authorizes staff to negotiate Hillsborough Street municipal services contract after public comments

Greg Brown, a merchant and former board chair of the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation, said the provider’s team “serve our community well” and credited the group for coordinating with City of Raleigh engineers on traffic bollards, parking optimization and other safety measures. Hadu Prasad Raj, a Hillsborough Street business owner, also spoke in support, saying the provider’s team keeps the street “neat and clean and very organized.”
After public comment, a council member moved to authorize staff to negotiate a five-year contract with the selected provider for the Hillsborough Street MSD. The motion passed by voice vote: the chair called for the ayes, heard “aye,” and recorded “the ayes have it.”
Why it matters: The Hillsborough Street MSD contract funds district-level services such as clean-and-safe programs, parking and events management and street maintenance that merchants and residents said support local businesses and enhance safety.
