Highway staff report Golden Bridge deck pour completed; crews testing concrete and monitoring cure

McLean County highway staff reported progress on the Golden Bridge north of LeRoy, including recent concrete deck forming and a deck pour completed on Friday.
Mr. Stokes described the forming system (Firmco brackets and plywood) used to support the deck during placement, the placement of embeds for future guardrail attachment, rebar placement, and use of a bidwell machine to finish the deck as concrete is placed. Staff said they test every truckload of concrete at the pump and take cylinders to be cured and broken after seven days to confirm strength.
Photos shown to the committee included forming, rebar, the pump truck and the finished deck immediately after finishing. Stokes said the contractor’s finishers broomed the surface and the deck will cure; the county will check cylinder break strengths and then start form stripping as allowed by concrete strength. Staff said the project has proceeded at a good pace this spring.
