McLean County committee approves replacement 30 kW Cummins generator at 200 West Front Street

The McLean County Property Committee on Tuesday approved a master installation agreement with Johnson Controls Inc. to install a 30-kilowatt Cummins emergency generator at the 200 West Front Street building, where the county health department is located.

County project manager Scott Folger told the committee the existing generator is 25 years old, that parts are increasingly hard to obtain and that the unit is overdue for replacement. “So we're looking at a 30 kilowatt backup system,” Folger said. He added the new Cummins-brand generator will be installed in the same location as the current unit.

The motion to place the item on the floor passed on a motion by Member Tompkins, seconded by Member Bell; the committee then voted to approve the master installation agreement. Committee Chair Abel called for the ayes and the motion passed.

The committee did not request further changes to the agreement during the meeting. No funding breakdown or contract amount was discussed on the record; the committee’s action was limited to approving the master installation agreement and authorizing procurement through Johnson Controls Inc.

The committee's approval directs staff to complete the installation process under the terms of the master agreement and to coordinate any required scheduling or site work with county facilities staff and contractor representatives. There was no secondary motion or amendment offered during the discussion.

Staff indicated the replacement is driven by reliability and parts-availability concerns; the committee did not set a separate timeline for installation during the meeting.
