Committee clears purchase of motor grader and service-body truck from 2025 budget

The Land Use and Transportation Committee approved resolutions authorizing purchase of a motor grader and a service-body fleet truck budgeted in the county’s 2025 equipment plan.
Mr. Stokes said the county tested John Deere and Caterpillar graders and preferred a Caterpillar model; the purchase will go through Sourcewell (a cooperative purchasing program). The county will trade in its 2007 motor grader, which Stokes said has about 4,500 hours compared with roughly 2,000 hours on the other two graders in the fleet. Stokes said graders are no longer routinely used for snow plowing except in emergencies, and replacing the oldest grader will reduce wear and maintenance risks.
The service-body truck will carry tools and materials for the pipe crew—saws, hand tools and storage for culvert installation operations.
Committee members moved and approved the purchases by voice vote; specific dollar amounts and trade-in values were not read into the record.
