County approves WSU memorandum of agreement; solid waste MOU renewal in progress

The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners on June 3 approved a memorandum of agreement (MOU) with Washington State University that will allocate staffing costs between the county and WSU, and staff reported work to renew a related solid-waste MOU.
Gary Fredericks described the MOU with WSU as an arrangement in which WSU would cover some faculty salaries or personnel costs while Lewis County covers the remainder. Fredericks said county staff are working with Rocky Lyon on a separate MOU between Lewis County solid waste and WSU.
Rocky Lyon, who identified himself as Solid Waste, Lewis County, told commissioners the current solid-waste MOU is still in good standing but expires in June and that county and WSU staff are changing some language and working to renew it. Lyon said a portion of the funds used by the solid-waste program derives from Department of Ecology grant money and that the related verbiage in the agreement remains accurate.
The memorandum with WSU and the work to renew the solid-waste MOU were included in deliberation items acted on by the board and were approved as part of deliberation items 25-153 through 25-155; the meeting record shows those items passed by voice vote, "Motion passes 3-0."
