Alderman asks council to consider shifting spring elections and to explore term limits; votes to revisit in two weeks

Ellis said U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden had suggested Wisconsin re-examine spring election timing because spring elections are costly and have lower turnout than fall elections. Ellis asked council members to reflect over the next two weeks and said the council would vote at the next meeting on whether to send a message to Madison.
Separately, Ellis proposed the council take two weeks to consider whether to explore term limits for local elected officials. He described the request as a “what if” study and not an immediate policy change, asking colleagues to solicit constituent input and return in two weeks for a formal vote on whether to proceed with exploration. The motion to take time to consider both items and return with a council vote was made and seconded; the mayor said the vote would occur at the next council meeting.
