Operations committee hears workforce dashboard and vacancy snapshot; coroner FTEs flagged

Peoria County’s operations committee reviewed workforce reports and a vacancy snapshot at its June 3 meeting, hearing from Administrator Sorrell that the county’s May dashboard summarizes applicant and hiring activity, workforce demographics and separations through April.
“This is the May dashboard, which would be through activity through the April,” Administrator Sorrell said, explaining that new hires in a month do not necessarily correspond to positions posted that same month because hiring often takes more than 30 days. He said the dashboard compares current hiring and demographic data to the prior year.
The committee then reviewed the vacancy report, which Sorrell described as “a snapshot in time at the April,” and said there are “currently roughly, mid sixties in terms of the numbers, of vacant positions.” Committee members asked clarifying questions about specific offices. Member Williams asked about “the coroner’s number.” Sorrell asked staff member Angela to respond.
Angela said elected officials’ FTE counts can differ from board-controlled positions and that the coroner’s office has exceeded an FTE count within the numbers reported, but that finance and the coroner’s office work together to ensure those positions are budgeted. “Within the number of FTEs that he has, it has exceeded that number. But as far as we work constantly with finance and the coroner’s office, to make sure that those positions are all budgeted,” she said.
