Residents' review prompts King County to include Federal Way shots-fired data; police say they sent missing records

During public comment, resident Anna Patrick raised concerns that King County's recent shots-fired statistics omitted Federal Way incidents and that some shootings involving juveniles had been classified in ways that excluded them from the county's counts.
"I was really shocked to see that King County is distributing shots fired data, and I didn't realize that certain data was not counted until the recent report," Patrick said, describing local efforts by her group to compile a heat map of incidents and urging the city to seek comprehensive reporting.
Federal Way's police chief responded that the omission stemmed from a change in crime-analyst staffing and a prioritization decision, not an intent to exclude the city's data. The chief said Federal Way staff "just simply sent everything to them. They will go retro," and confirmed the city had provided first-quarter and other data so the county could incorporate Federal Way incidents into the regional reporting going forward.
Mayor Jim Farrell and council members thanked the chief and noted the King County prosecutor had followed up with the police chief to address the omission. City staff said they will provide ongoing quarterly data to ensure future reports include Federal Way.
