At a public hearing opened by the Select Board chair, Susan, the town finance officer, said the trustees of the town's trust funds had verified the available balance. "The sum available for disbursement by the trustees, for expenditure by the selectmen is $188,328.29," Susan told the board, citing an email from John Pramberg, chairman of the trustees of the trust funds.
The board said the approved work covers a complete electrical upgrade at the Plains, including new panels, trenching and underground lines. Steve from the highway department described plans to fabricate weather-resistant backings for the new panels using 5/8-inch AZAC decking and cedar shingled roofs for improved aesthetics; the board discussed adding up to $2,000 for those materials to the project budget so the work could proceed without a separate hearing.
Board members discussed whether to set a not-to-exceed figure or to provide a round number to the trustees; the board settled on authorizing $42,000 and instructed that any amount not spent would remain in the infrastructure fund. The public hearing drew no public comment, and the board then moved and seconded the motion and called the vote. The motion passed unanimously.
The Select Board and highway staff discussed scheduling the contractor work to try to complete the upgrade before an early August event at the Plains. The board directed town staff to coordinate with the contractor to confirm the timeline and to return any unused funds to the infrastructure interest account.
The project will proceed under the authority of the town's infrastructure fund process established in 2020 and will be paid from interest set aside by the trustees of the trust funds.
Board members agreed to notify the trustees with the $42,000 authorization so the trustees could disburse the funds once the paperwork was complete.
