Wausau MPO to apply for USDOT Safe Streets for All planning funds, county says

Laurie Muskemmons, director of Conservation, Planning & Zoning, told the Environmental Resources Committee on June 3 that the Wausau Metropolitan Planning Organization intends to apply to the U.S. Department of Transportation for Safe Streets for All planning funds.
"We will be submitting an application to the USDOT for those funds," Muskemmons said. She explained the funds would support a safety analysis across routes within the metropolitan planning boundary, and that the work differs from a previous county highways safety study that focused on county highways only.
Muskemmons said the MPO supported applying for the funds and that, if awarded, the grant would likely be incorporated into the county's 2026 budget request; if the award came too late, staff would seek a 2026 budget amendment. The committee was notified for informational purposes only; no action was required.
